Balancing the Microbes of the Skin While Cleansing

The world is filthy, filled with microorganisms blanketing the Earth, touching every object and being. Our skin is covered with diverse microbes that help fight off invaders and boost our immunity. When we don’t have that line of defense, we’re vulnerable to bad pathogens looking to take over.

Yes, it’s a bit gross to think we are covered in so much bacteria, but most of the ones living on us are the good ones. And with our regular cleansing of the body, we interrupt the balance of these good bacteria which are unconditionally doing our bodies good, warding off evil invaders. Hence the rise of skin care products and cosmetics now with added probiotics.

Sunfood Natural Hair Care and Body Wash

If you’re into raw foods or organic raw skin care, then you may be familiar with Sunfood. They are mostly known for their raw food products, but in the last couple of years or so, they came out with hair care, and body wash. The ingredients are simple for each product, without any chemicals or toxins, and they even add microorganisms, so you balance your microbes while cleansing.

All three products are plant-based and cruelty-free. I love the minimal ingredients. I’ve been using the products since the release of these products, and I have to say they are wonderful.

Shampoo

Ingredients
Sapindus saponaria (Wild Crafted Soap Nut); Aqua (Artesian Spring Water); Citrus aurantifolia (Lime), Citrus hystrix (Makrut Lime); Dillenia indica (Elephant Apple); Calophyllum inophyllum (Wild Crafted Indian Laurel Leaf); Lactobacillus casei, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Microorganisms); Ananas comosus (Pineapple)

Price: 12.99USD

The shampoo is superb for everyday washing because it keeps your scalp balanced yet clean. You always hear how you shouldn’t shampoo every day, but with this shampoo, you can because you aren’t messing up your microbes. What I don’t like about the shampoo is that you need a lot of it. I apply it in sections, at the top, middle and bottom of my head, which calls for a bit of the shampoo. And since I do wash my hair every day, one bottle doesn’t last too long for me.

Conditioner

Ingredients
Dillenia indica (Elephant Apple); Calophyllum inophyllum (Wild Crafted Indian Laurel Leaf); Aqua (Artesian Spring Water); Citrus aurantifolia (Lime), Citrus hystrix (Makrut Lime); Oryza Sativa (Rice Bran Powder); Lactobacillus casei, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Microorganisms); Ananas comosus (Pineapple); Sapindus saponaria (Wild Crafted Soap Nut)

Price: 12.99USD

The conditioner lasts a long time because a little goes a long way. Just a little dollop will keep your hair conditioned for a couple of days, so you don’t need to use it every day if your hair is already healthy and in good condition.

Body Wash

Ingredients
Sapindus saponaria (Wild Crafted Soap Nut); Aqua (Artesian Spring Water); Citrus aurantifolia (Lime), Citrus hystrix (Makrut Lime); Dillenia indica (Elephant Apple); Calophyllum inophyllum (Wild Crafted Indian Laurel Leaf); Ananas comosus (Pineapple); Lactobacillus casei, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Microorganisms); Phyllanthus emblica (Wild Crafted Amla Fruit)

Price: 12.99USD

My favorite is the body wash because you feel clean yet don’t feel stripped, and because it balances out your microbes, it also acts as a deodorant.

The Verdict

These products are great. They work fantastically, are formulated with good ingredients, and the prices are reasonable. I love using them, especially the body wash. I can live without the shampoo and conditioner, but the body wash is something I have a hard time letting go despite it being packaged in a plastic bottle. I am trying to steer away from using products that are stored in plastic as much as possible because of how bad plastics are for our health. If Sunfood ever puts their product in glass containers, which I highly doubt, then I will probably use their products forever.

Sunfood also has a lotion, which is still a favorite in my household. My husband uses it on his body and face religiously. I use it off and on but still think it’s the best out there for light moisturizers.
